During this safari, you will head to Bwindi national park which is one of the national parks that hosts endangered mountain gorillas. You will encounter the mountain gorillas twice within different gorilla families. You will also have a chance to pose for a picture at the Uganda equator as you make an en route stopover to and from the park.
While on this trek, encounter other attractions in the forest such as chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, olive baboons, among other different bird species. You have an option of visiting the Batwa communities that live at the edge of Bwindi park boundaries.
Day to day itinerary.
Day 1: Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park from Kampala.
Have briefing about destination visited and the tour, purchase some necessities like batteries, mosquito repellent, caps, and exchange foreign currency to Uganda shillings and then transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park which is located in south western Uganda. This destination is known to inhabit half of the remaining endangered mountain gorillas with over 18 fully habituated gorilla families.
The park is home to other wildlife species like over 350 bird species including 23 Albertine rift endemics and the rarely spotted chimpanzees. The park is covered by mist all the time due to its impenetrable nature. You will have stopover at the Uganda equator and another one in Mbarara town for lunch. Proceed to the park and check in the lodge late in the evening.
Day 2: First gorilla trekking.
Head for the first briefing at the park offices, normally conducted by the park warden or ranger guide where you will get to know more about the forest and its inhabitants. You will be told about the dos and don’ts that will make your experience more fun and enjoyable. These guidelines among others include; no feeding primates in the forest, no littering, do not mimic gorillas, etc.
Get into the forest and start a search for your allocated gorilla family which will be met at a certain point depending on where they spend previous night. You’ll be rewarded an average of one hour with them as you take photos and later trek back to the office where you will be given a certificate recognizing you to have tracked this gorilla family in Bwindi national park. You will be driven back to the lodge and relax for the rest of this evening.
Day 3: Second gorilla trekking experience.
Head back to the office where you will again go through a briefing session that will be followed by a trek into the forest. Start the search for a different gorilla family which will be another amazing adventure as you pass through the thick vegetation that characterises this park.
Meet the gorilla family feeding on tree shoots, breastfeeding young ones as the silverback protects his group jealously and juveniles exhibiting their acrobatic jumps. A maximum of one hour in their presence and after head back to the starting point where the head guide will reward you with a second gorilla certificate. Return to the lodge with an afternoon option of visiting the Batwa community where you will learn more about Batwa culture.
Day 4: Travel back to Kampala / Entebbe international airport.
Have an early breakfast and transfer back to Kampala with another stopover at the equator. This will reward you with a great experience of taking photos and purchase some Ugandan crafts as souvenirs. Lunch will be served at this point and then proceed to Entebbe international airport where you will be dropped to catch your exit flight.
