3 Days Rwanda Chimpanzee Trekking Nyungwe

Explore one of the famous and pioneer national parks in the post-genocide Rwanda, Nyungwe national park where you will engage in two main adventures – chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk.

These activities will present endless chances to spot different primates such as the vervet monkeys, chimpanzees, red colobus monkeys, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys among others; plus over 300 bird species hosted in this national park. Therefore, for the love of primates, you need not miss this tour which will begin and end in Kigali with a short city tour where different options are provided like visiting the genocide memorial center, Presidential Palace Museum and local markets among others. Detailed itinerary.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, Rwanda and transfer to Nyungwe national park.

Arrive at the airport in Kigali and transfer to Nyungwe national park after a short briefing by your safari guide / driver regarding the safari and Rwanda at large.

Enjoy great scenery dotted with beautiful hills, green plantations as you travel south-western to the park. Nyungwe National Park is known to host about 13 primates including the Chimpanzees. Other primates in this park include white and black colobus monkeys, Vervet monkeys, olive baboons and red-tailed monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys among others. Over 300 bird species can be traced in this park of which 29 are endemic to the Albertine rift region.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk.

Head to the briefing point in Nyungwe National Park after breakfast where you will receive briefing. Learn about what to follow while in the forest and head to the forest to search for chimpanzees.

While in the forest, spot other primates like the Vervet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys among others. Also, different birds will be spotted but on setting your eyes on the chimps for the first time, you will be given one hour and later trek out of the forest.

The whole experience can take up to 6 hours of taking in great memories. In the afternoon, head for another exciting adventure which is the canopy walk. This is a 160m long and 74m high extension bridge giving amazing aerial views of the entire forest. Watch primates hopping from one tree to another and take in the sweet songs of resident birds. Later after the 2 hours experience, return to the lodge for your dinner.

Day 3: Transfer back to Kigali for your outbound flight.

This will be the last day of your 3 days Nyungwe forest tour and here you will be served breakfast, check out of the hotel room and then transfer to Kigali city. Depending on your flight, have a chance to visit some of the city-based attractions like the local markets that sell fresh foods, fruits and handmade crafts, former presidential Palace among others.

After delicious local meal, you will head to the airport and this will be the end of your great 3 day Nyungwe forest tour.
